CRIJAF campus of West Bengal.

ICAR-CRIJAF is a premier institute on jute & allied fibre crops of ICAR under Crop Science is situated at Nilganj, Barrackpore (6.0 Km from Barrackpore railway station) and about 20 Km from Dum Dum Airport (NSC Bose International Airport). The institute mainly deals with 6 natural fibre crops viz., Jute, Sisal, Ramie, Sunnhemp, Mesta and Flax. The institute has four Research Stations viz., Sunnhemp Research Station, Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh; Ramie Research Station, Sorbhog, Assam; Sisal Research Station, Bamra, Odisha and Central Seed Research Station for JAF, Budbud, West Bengal. It has two KVK's under administrative control of CRIJAF is located at Budbud in Burdwan district and one at CRIJAF campus of West Bengal.

Due to the abrupt fall in minimum temperature, sowing of jute should be avoided till 23rd March 2020. // Sowing of seeds should be done only after seed treatment (with Carbendazim 50WP @ 2gm/kg of seed).

ICAR-CRIJAF Agro Advisory Services :

ICAR-CRIJAF Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav

ICAR-CRIJAF adopted 55 villages of North 24 Parganas, Nadia, Hooghly and Medinipore under Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav (MGMG) activities of the institute. All the Scientists of the institute pay regular visit to the enlisted villages, interacted with the farmers. The MGMG program has benifited the farmers in many ways such as about 1550 farmers, 16 Gosthis/meetings, SMS were send to about 6600 farmers, about 2000 extension folders were distributed among the jute farmers; about 550 kg of jute seed of new varieties were distributed among 550 farmers through which 150 ha area was covered by new high yielding jute varieties; in 5 general awareness creation activities 425 farmers were covered. Linkages of jute farmers with National Jute Board, Jute Corporation of India, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, State Department of Agriculture and NGO have been created.

ICAR-CRIJAF Soil Health Card

Soil Health Card (SHC) is a Government of India's scheme promoted by the Department of Agriculture & Co-operation under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare. It is being implemented through the Department of Agriculture of all the State / UT. Health Card Scheme is a very beneficial scheme for farmers. The farmers do not know which types of crops they should grow to get maximum yield. Basically, they do not know the quality and the type of their soil. ICAR-CRIJAF is actively involved in the scheme through many programs to aware the farmers'. Two KVK's under administrative control of CRIJAF located at Barrackpore and Burdwan recently celebrated the World Soil Day on 05.12.2017. About 400 farmers participated in both the programs at Barrackpore and Burdwan. KVK, Burdwan distributed 215 Soil Health Cards among the farmers.

ICAR-CRIJAF Swachh Bharat Mission

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (SBA) or Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) or Clean India Mission is a campaign in India that aims to clean up the streets, roads and infrastructure of India's cities, smaller towns, and rural areas. Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi launched on 2nd October 2014 with slogan "One step towards cleanliness" to fullfill Mahatma Gandhi's vision of Clean India. A clean India is the best tribute we can pay to Bapu. ICAR-CRIJAF, along with its four research stations and two KVK's under it actively taken part in various activities of National Sanitation Campaign to promote the Cleanliness Drive on regular basis within the office campus and outside the campus during the sanitation campaign from 15th September to 2nd October 2017 as “Swachhta Hi Seva”.

ICAR-CRIJAF Tribal Sub Plan

The Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) was initiated during Fifth Five Year Plan, is a strategy for the rapid Socio-economic development of tribal people. ICAR-CRIJAF provided technological interventions for jute production with improved variety, seed drill, nail weeder, balanced fertilizer application and improved retting method using CRIJAF SONA etc. The farmers who adopted the demonstrated CRIJAF technologies improved the productivity of jute fibre by 22 percent. Farmers were also provided technical and farm input support for cultivation of paddy (kharif and rabi), mustard, coriander and potato. Results of TSP intervention and Farmers’ feedback revealed that the technological interventions were very useful and helped them to increase farm income and employment opportunities.
